You see in the digital marketing world there is a fundamental flaw. You can apply a simple flow to it. If you want someone with experience and they have learned how to be good. The company they work for has ended up building what they need around them and those people will not leave. If they do, seldom would they jump back into another scenario in which they have to prove themselves.
More so over once going into the market. As digital marketing is so unregulated and executives still so fresh to this new part of their business. They will likely not be willing to compete against any ‘experts’. With the emotional expense of their work becoming as important as the return for the work. A luxury good digital marketers as do developers sometimes find they have.
How Hiring Wrong Can Be A Hazard
Hiring in Digital if you do not know it yourself can be scary. As even with a large background from a large company a potential employee who has the talk to follow the reputation can even turn out to be quite the Hazard.
The problem you really have is if someone has not fundamentally themselves generated 7 figures of sales without a team on a small site. They do not understand all the moving parts and remain in the hazard phase. You can see how it would need a lot to move this expertise into the job market. With the concepts changing every 3 years. The topic is also not suitable for university.
When hiring, it is in my opinion better to start with a beginner with a lot of potential, and guide them through all areas of digital. Someone who only knows SEO is a hazard, someone who only knows PPC is a hazard, someone who only knows design is a hazard, if they know only social they are a hazard. You need someone to understand the fundamentals of all, how they get growth there and then let them hire into those SOP’s they are using themselves. Scaling in digital requires a lot of money any other way.
Finding a really smart person, with a lot of eager energy and arming them with tools like SEMrush and tell them to learn Google Analytics & SEO. In my experience I have better ROI, better results and an extra person at the round table with me at the end.
